Volunteer Opportunities

During half time at select varsity basketball games, the Waconia Basketball Association sponsors a Pop Shot competition. Make a 3-point shot and win a 2-liter of pop. We are looking for volunteers to help run the competition.

How does it work? Volunteers will be asked to arrive at the start of the basketball game to check-in with the Pop Shot Crew. During the first half of the game, the volunteers will be trained in on their role. (Don’t worry it is pretty easy – the roles consist of rebounding the basketball, collecting $1 bills, and passing out winner coupons). The Pop Shot competition begins promptly at the start of Half Time. After the prizes have been distributed and money has been counted, volunteers are free to leave.

Will I get WBA volunteer hours? Yes, you will receive one WBA volunteer hour per game you volunteer. You can volunteer for as many games as you like. In order to get credit for your volunteer hours, you MUST sign-in on the “Pop Shot Sign-In” clipboard each night you volunteer.

Can players volunteer? Since WBA parents are looking for volunteer opportunities, initially we are going to reserve the Pop Shot volunteer shifts for parents only.

Do volunteers pay admission to the game? Yes, volunteers will need to pay admission since this is a WHS event.

How do I find the Pop Shot Crew at the game? The Pop Shot Crew will be pulling the gray Pop Wagon and during the game will be sitting with the wagon on the bottom row of the bleachers.

There will be other opportunities this season for volunteer hours. Our boys tournament volunteer sign-up will be sent near the end of December and the girls tournament sign-up at the end of January. Our home tournaments are where our parents fulfill most of their hours.

Each family is required to volunteer 8 hours per player with a maximum of 16 hours per family.
